Una Malcolm is an Ontario Certified Teacher who is passionate about helping children thrive in her role as Director of Bright Light Learners. She specializes in working with children to help them develop both their foundational academic skills, but also their self-confidence and self-image. She focuses on understanding the whole child in order to prioritize highlighting a child's strengths and engaging their interests, while also addressing their needs.
Una holds a Master’s degree in Child Study and Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and is committed to continued professional development. Una has trained extensively in several evidence-based teaching methods, such as Direct Instruction, Lindamood-Bell, and Orton Gillingham. She is a member of the Phono-Graphix Association of Reading Therapists. Additionally, Una is a member of the International Dyslexia Association and the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario.
Una recognizes that many of her students have complex needs. Her teaching style is warm and supportive while also drawing on humour and fun, and she prioritizes building a child's confidence and self-esteem. Students feel safe and successful in their time with her, which allows them to make clear strides towards their learning goals.
Together with a team of experienced teachers licensed with the Ontario College of Teachers, Una prioritizes providing sound academic remediation in a holistic, engaging, and supportive environment.
